For over 150 years people have come to Coon Rapids, Iowa.

Coon Rapids, Iowa, is a welcoming stop for trail travelers seeking outdoor recreation, scenic river views, and convenient access to services. Designated as an American Discovery Trail (ADT) Town in June 2025, Coon Rapids is centrally located along the ADT route through Iowa.

The trail enters Coon Rapids from the east along County Road E63/330th Street, following the Middle Raccoon River before traveling through the heart of downtown along Main Street. This direct connection places restaurants, businesses, and essential amenities within easy reach for walkers and cyclists.

Trail users enjoy bike-friendly streets, a campground, and a paved Riverside Trail that parallels the Middle Raccoon River, offering opportunities for walking, biking, fishing, and wildlife viewing.

Just outside the city limits, Whiterock Conservancy enhances the trail experience. This 5,500-acre public nature area features more than 40 miles of single-track mountain bike trails, over 20 miles of equestrian and multi-use trails, stocked fishing ponds, river paddling access, and a variety of camping options including RV, rustic, and tent sites.

Together, Coon Rapids and Whiterock Conservancy provide a unique blend of small-town hospitality, river recreation, and expansive natural landscapes—making Coon Rapids an ideal place for trail travelers to rest, refuel, and recharge before continuing their journey across Iowa.

Public Restrooms are located at the Riverside Campground (32907 Walnut Street, Coon Rapids) and at the Veterans Memorial Park downtown (406 Main Street, Coon Rapids).
